Trondheim may be Norway’s third-largest city, but its compact center makes it perfect for exploring on foot. This guided walking tour takes you through a thousand years of history, blending past and present as you stroll through its vibrant streets.
Starting outside Rockheim Museum, the tour leads you to Solsiden, a modern riverside district filled with lively cafés and popular among students. Walking along the river Nid, you’ll pass Trondheim’s iconic colorful warehouses—an ideal spot for photos—before reaching Bakklandet, a charming neighborhood known for its preserved wooden architecture. Once an industrial area, Bakklandet is now a trendy part of the city, home to cozy cafés, independent boutiques, and the world's only bicycle lift.
Crossing the Old City Bridge, often called the "Happiness Portal" by locals, the tour continues past the royal residence, Stiftsgaarden, and into the bustling market square, where a statue of Viking King Olav Tryggvason stands tall. The walk concludes at Nidaros Cathedral, Norway’s national shrine, built over the burial site of St. Olav. After the tour, you’ll have the chance to explore this magnificent medieval cathedral on your own.
