Rafting on the Driva River
By Opplev Oppdal AS
This is a varied and exciting hike suitable for most adults. The hike starts off gently, but gradually you’ll encounter a series of rapids such as Pyramidesteinen, Hakka, Ålmadroppet, Haikjeften, Brukarene, Vengavoll, Gammastryka, S-svingen, Bruhølen, Gydasteinen, Fliphølen, and finally Annestryket. The rapids are named after stories and characters from rafting trips. Along the way, there’s also an opportunity to jump into the river from a cliff. The trip is of moderate difficulty, and the guides are skilled at adjusting the level of excitement to suit the participants’ preferences.
Practical information:
The trip has a difficulty rating of 3–4 out of 6 on the international river rafting scale.
The age limit is 15 years, but this may vary depending on water levels:
-
When water levels are higher—which often occurs in June—the age limit is 18 years and the difficulty level is 4+.
-
When water levels are lower, the age limit is 12 years when accompanied by adults, and the difficulty level is 3. Lower water levels occur in late July and last through the season.
Water levels depend on snowmelt and precipitation. Water levels are highest, and rafting is most challenging and fast-paced during the snowmelt period in May–June. From July through September, the water flow is generally lower, and the character of the Driva changes. The rapids are still fun and challenging, and there are calm stretches of water between each rapid.
Procedure:
Meet at the rafting center for check-in about 10 minutes before the trip starts. After check-in, you’ll get dressed in the changing room and be divided into boat teams. The first few kilometers of the route are calm, during which you’ll receive paddling instruction and safety training. We’ll raft a total of 14 km and be transported back to the rafting center after the trip. Shower facilities are also available there.

A rafting lunch can be pre-ordered for an additional fee as part of your rafting experience. Lunch is served at the rafting center between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
