In the Footsteps of Ibsen in Skien

Join us on a unique walking tour of Skien, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore Henrik Ibsen’s childhood. The tour takes you to places where the young Ibsen lived and experienced life before his family went bankrupt. You’ll gain insight into his early memories and how he developed as a writer.
During the walk, you’ll see, among other things, the place where Henrik was born, the Ibsen Staircase, and the bust at Sorrento Square, as well as learn about Ibsen’s life among Skien’s upper class. The guide will share stories and anecdotes from Ibsen’s childhood, providing a deeper understanding of his work and life.
The tour lasts one hour and starts at the VEV museum building in Brekkeparken. The last part of the tour is a bit steep, but the view from the top is well worth it. After the walk, you can enjoy a meal at Café Aall Inn or Brekkeparken Café, both of which overlook the city of Skien.
