Kristiansand Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Southern Norway’s history through a collection of well-preserved buildings and historical settings. The museum is divided into three areas: Setesdalstunet, Vest-Agder Farmstead, and Bygada. At Setesdalstunet, you’ll find the museum’s oldest building, Nomelandsloftet from 1585, alongside a traditional smokehouse from the 1600s. The Vest-Agder area features a historical farm and a schoolhouse from the late 19th century. Bygada showcases life in Kristiansand’s old town with homes, workshops, and a general store.
In addition to its historical exhibitions, the museum’s main building hosts temporary displays. Visitors can take a break at Mørchs Pavilion café, where freshly made waffles and coffee are available. During the summer, children’s activities take place daily, and farm animals bring an extra lively touch to the museum.

Good to know
Opening hours 2026:
- Open every day from 10am-3pm from 10pm-9am.
- Separate children's activities from 12pm-1pm.
- The café is open during opening hours.
- The museum has sheep, lambs and chickens. These are fed at 12.30pm every day.
- Every Saturday the bakery is open, where we bake delicious Hardanger lefsers on a griddle.
Opening hours late summer:
Open Monday to Friday from 11am-1pm (without café) 10am-4pm.
The museum is located at Kongsgård, just outside Kristiansand city center. On-site café and museum shop available. Suitable for families, history enthusiasts, and school groups. Open during school holidays and special events
