Located in the scenic terrain of Møvik near Kristiansand, the Kristiansand Kanonmuseum preserves an impressive chapter of World War II history. This historic site houses the world's second-largest land-mounted cannon, part of the Batterie Vara established in 1941 to safeguard maritime routes in the Skagerrak. Together with a counterpart in Denmark, these cannons once commanded a firing range of 55 kilometers, exemplifying coastal defense during wartime.
Following the war, the battery continued as part of Norway's coastal artillery until 1957, when it was decommissioned.
Since opening to the public in 1993, the museum has become a part of the Vest-Agder Museum network, offering visitors a glimpse into the past through exhibits, wartime artifacts, and educational displays. The museum experience is further enriched with a ride on the restored ammunition railway, originally used to transport heavy shells to the artillery.
The museum offers an engaging blend of history and adventure, perfect for military history enthusiasts and curious travelers alike.

Good to know
Suitable for all ages, though children must be accompanied by an adult. Group visits are available upon request. There are a souvenir shop with World War II memorabilia.
