The Norwegian Industrial Workers' Museum at Vemork is one of the crown jewels of NIA, and lends its name to the whole museum network! Known by most locals simply as Vemork, the museum has evolved from exhibits showcasing industrial life in the nearby city of Rjukan into a vast collection of items, pictures and stories covering a rich tapestry of topics.
Most famous may be the site of the famous Heavy Water Sabotage, the attack on a part of the German nuclear programme of WWII, the ruins of which can be found in a building on site. However, the main building also features exhibits exploring a range of topics from the UNESCO-recognized world heritage area the museum is in, covering over a century of technological developments, social conflict and a changing society, aiming to frame the area in unique and innovative ways. Our experienced staff welcome questions on a wide range of topics.

Good to know
Vemork is located at the top of a 700 meter long slope. Visitors with mobility challenges can contact reception during opening hours via the phone number listed on site or on our website www.nia.no/vemork to request parking permission closer to the museum buildings.
In line with national regulations, as a rule dogs and other pets are not allowed inside the buildings except service animals. If you are planning to visit the site with a dog, please contact reception to hear about possible options.
NIA strives for universal accessibility, but the age of our buildings can at times pose challenges. If you have special mobility needs or concerns, please contact reception.
