At DuVerden Maritime Museum & Science Centre, maritime history meets science. The venue serves as both a regional science centre for Vestfold and Telemark and as a maritime museum dedicated to local shipping heritage. Interactive exhibitions invite visitors to learn through hands-on experiences.
In the Climate & Energy zone, visitors can explore offshore energy, ballast water, and environmental challenges connected to shipping and industry. Activities include creating wind storms at the weather table or producing biogas by feeding a robot.
The Loading & Logistics zone covers cargo handling and port operations with interactive crane and ship simulators.
The Safety zone focuses on maritime safety, dangerous goods, and tugboats, offering engaging games to test reaction times.
DuVerden also has a 3D cinema with space for 48 visitors, where short, exciting films are screened several times a day.
On the first floor, there is a maritime history exhibition featuring stories about ships, sailors, shipping companies and ports — all presented in an accessible and engaging way.
The building is located in the beautiful House of Seafaring (Sjøfartens hus) by the river in Porsgrunn, and is owned by Telemark Museum.
In addition to the exhibitions, DuVerden has a café with a view over the river, where you can enjoy light meals, snacks, ice cream and drinks. Next to the café, our shop offers a selection of games, books, toys and IQ-tests — perfect for a gift or a little souvenir.

During school holidays (Telemark), and on most public holidays — the centre is open from 11:00 to 16:00. During these holiday weeks, we’re also open on Mondays.
Paid parking nearby — we now have a large parking lot close to the centre. Parking costs 25 NOK per started hour (pay via APCOA app or at the parking machine).
