Sail through beautiful islands and Northern Europe's highest-lying sluices aboard the historic veteran boat M/S Fram from 1909. A 2-hour scenic cruise on Lake Nisser, departing from Straand Brygge in Vrådal.
Step aboard M/S Fram, a charming veteran boat built in 1909, and experience Telemark from the water. Originally built as a tugboat to haul timber across Lake Nisser, Norway's ninth-largest lake and the largest in Telemark, M/S Fram has been lovingly restored and now sails as a passenger boat from Straand Brygge in Vrådal.
This sluice cruise takes you through a stunning archipelago of islands with sweeping views toward forested hills and mountains, including a unique view of Vrådal Golf Course from the lake side. In high season, the boat turns out on the open lake by Tarjeisberg, a dramatic vertical cliff face rising straight from the water.
A highlight of the trip is sailing through Northern Europe's highest-lying lock system, the historic Småstraum and Storstraum sluices, hand-built in the 1860s. It is a fascinating glimpse into how the waterways of Telemark were used for transport and timber floating long before the roads arrived. When the boat passes through Småstraum, you also have the chance to visit the small lock museum on site.
From the deck of M/S Fram, you experience nature at a slow, calm pace with fresh air, ever-changing viewpoints, and the gentle rhythm of the lake. A perfect contrast to everyday life and a memorable way to discover the Vrådal landscape.
