Become a Musher: Husky Dog Training & Overnight Lodge Stay

Day 1 – Arrival & first kennel visit

Arrival in the evening, check-in at your accommodation. First introduction to the huskies and evening feeding. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation. 

Days 2 Training basics & first experience

Start the day with morning feeding and an introduction to our training equipment, daily routines, and how we prepare the dogs for the winter season.

Depending on the weather, temperatures, and the dogs’ needs, activities may include:

• Dog training with wheeled carts: Harness the dogs, drive a dog team, and check the dogs after training.
• Husky walks or free running: Spend time with the dogs, discover their personalities, and help with their socialization.
• Maintenance in the barn

Lunch at the kennel or your accommodation. Evening feeding, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 3 – Training & dog care

Start with morning feeding and kennel routines.

Depending on conditions, the day may include:

• A longer dog training session with the dogs.
• Post-training care such as checking paws, stretching, brushing, and basic dog care.
• Relaxing time with the huskies to build a connection with them.
• Maintenance in the barn

Evening feeding, puppy or husky walk (depending on conditions), dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 4 – Final training & husky time

Morning feeding followed by kennel routines.

Depending on temperatures and conditions, activities may include:

• A final training session with the dogs.
• Time with the huskies for cuddles, photos, free running, and social interaction.
• Behind-the-scenes kennel tasks and daily care routines.

Final evening feeding, farewell dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 5 – Goodbye huskies

Final morning feeding and goodbyes to the dogs before departure to the airport.

• Experience daily life at a working husky kennel and learn how mushers train their dogs for the winter season.
• Take part in several sledding on wheels training tours with enthusiastic huskies.
• Learn practical dog care routines such as feeding, massaging, stretching, and basic paw and nail care.
• Spend quality time with the dogs through husky hikes, puppy walks, free running, and cuddle time.
• Enjoy 4 nights of accommodation near the kennel, all meals included, and airport transfers from Lakselv.

What do I need to bring?

• Warm, weather-appropriate clothing suitable for outdoor activities (layering is recommended)
• Waterproof outer layer (jacket and pants)
• Wool or fleece sweater
• Sturdy outdoor shoes
• Working gloves, thin wool gloves, and a scarf
• Thick wool socks and wool underwear
• Personal toiletries
• Any personal medication you may need

Transportation from Lakselv airport (return). Pick-up from Alta available at extra cost.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.

All activities as described in the program.

You can choose between two types of accommodation:

Apartment at the lodge, located just 5 minutes from the kennel (transfers included).

Glamping tent by the kennel, a more rustic but cozy option equipped with a oven and beds — with the huskies as your closest neighbors.
