From Monday to Friday
Five-day dogsledding expedition with the first night in a lodge, followed by three days of dogsledding with two overnight stays in a camp, and a final night at the lodge.
All meals from dinner on day one until breakfast on day five are included. Transport from Lakselv airport on day one and transfer back on day five are included.
Finnmark is home to long-distance dog sled races in Europe, and sled dogs are an integral part of life and travel in this region. This expedition offers an introduction to dog sledding as it is practiced in daily work with the dogs and in Arctic conditions.
The experience focuses on the relationship between humans and dogs, practical learning, and time spent in the winter landscape. You will learn how to prepare a sled team, handle the dogs, and take part in the routines that support their wellbeing and the progress of the journey.
Accommodation is in a heated gamme tent in the wilderness and in a local lodge. All necessary equipment and training are provided to ensure you are prepared for the activities.
How to get here:
On Mondays we have Norwegain Air Shuttle flying directly from Oslo to Lakselv, it also have a return flight on Fridays that is a good fit. Optional Wideroe flies from Tromsø to Lakselv several times a day and connects with a lot of national and international flights coming to Tromsø.
Day 1: Arrival and introduction
Arrival at Lakselv Airport and transfer to the kennel. You are welcomed into the daily environment of the dogs and the team. In the evening, you take part in a short sled dog tour in the local area to become familiar with the equipment and the dogs. Overnight stay at the lodge..
Day 2–4: Dog sledding expedition Each day begins with breakfast, feeding the dogs, and preparation of the dogs and sleds. The route varies depending on snow, weather, and terrain conditions. The journey may pass through forest areas, open plateaus, frozen rivers or lakes, and coastal landscapes. You will drive your own dog team, shared with another passenger, and take part in the daily care of the dogs throughout the expedition. Meals are prepared outdoors during the journey using basic field equipment. Evenings are spent at the camp, where the dogs are cared for, fed, and settled for rest.
Day 5: Departure Breakfast and a last cuddle with the dogs before transfer back to Lakselv Airport.

What do I need to bring?
Thermal underwear (wool), a fleece or wool sweater, ski pants, thin wool socks, personal clothing, a neck warmer, sunglasses or dark goggles, a winter jacket, toiletries, and thin working gloves (wool or fleece).
