Join an exciting walking tour through Henrik Ibsen’s childhood city, Skien, and learn more about the world-renowned playwright’s early years.
Step into the history of Skien on a unique walking tour exploring the childhood of Henrik Ibsen. We visit the places where the young Ibsen lived and experienced life before his family’s financial downfall. You will gain insight into his early memories and how they influenced his development as a writer.
During the tour, we will see his birthplace, the "Ibsen Stairs," and the bust at Sorrento Plass, while learning about Ibsen’s life among the upper class in Skien. Your guide will share stories and anecdotes that provide a deeper understanding of his work and life. The tour lasts 45–60 minutes and begins at the VEV museum building in Brekkeparken. The final part of the walk is a bit steep, but the view from the top is definitely worth it. After the tour, feel free to enjoy a meal at Café Aall Inn, located right in the park.
The tour meets at Brekkeparken for groups of up to 20 people, is available in Norwegian and English, and can be fully adapted for those who prefer to avoid stairs.
